Hurricane Irma’s pounding rains and strong winds have left much of South Florida in a sweaty disarray fumbling around with flashlights. But Floridians are heading toward normalcy.

Here’s what we know so far as of Tues., Sept. 12, 2017.

Power back in PBC by Sunday night, FPL hopes

Power should be back online by the end of the weekend for people on Florida’s east coast, Florida Power and Light said today.

Here’s the breakdown out outages by county as of 11 p.m.:

Palm Beach: 42 percent or 314,020 customers without power

St. Lucie: 27 percent or 34,480 customers without power

Martin: 40 percent or 38,100 customers without power

Statewide, 45 percent of FPL’s customers or 2.2 million customers are without power

Palm Beach County government offices will remain closed Wednesday, but plan to reopen Thursday.

The county estimates about $19 million in damages from Irma so far.

No class in PBC public schools for the rest of the week

Palm Beach County’s public schools will remain closed for the rest of the week, with classes possibly resuming on Monday, Schools Superintendent Robert Avossa announced this morning.
