GHMS Hurricane Preparedness

Are you worried about protecting your vacation home from severe weather during tropical storm season? Our hurricane preparation services will give you invaluable peace of mind.

Living in South Florida is a dream for many, with its beautiful beaches and warm weather year-round. However, it also comes with the risk of tropical summer storms and hurricanes. Hurricane season, which runs from the beginning of June through the end of November, can be nerve-wracking for property owners in the area. It’s essential to be prepared. Gardens Home Management Services can help you get your home ready for the dreaded storm.

Hurricane Havoc

Experiencing a hurricane can be a frightening and overwhelming event. As one approaches, there is often a sense of anticipation and unease as people prepare for its potential impact. Depending on the category of the hurricane, the intensity and duration of the storm will vary. But all are characterized by strong winds, heavy rain, and storm surges that can cause widespread damage to your residential property:

  • The howling winds associated with tropical storms can rip off shingles, damage roofs, and break windows.
  • Torrential rain and storm surges can cause flooding. If floodwaters enter your home through doors, windows, and other openings, it may cause structural damage, as well as damage to the floors, walls, and/ or electrical systems.
  • Even if your residence does not flood, water damage is still a risk due to leaks and moisture intrusion. Water can seep into walls and ceilings, causing mold and mildew growth.
  • Hurricanes and tropical storms may knock out power to entire neighborhoods or regions, leaving homes without electricity for days or even weeks. This is particularly dangerous during hot and humid weather conditions and can also lead to food spoilage and other inconveniences.
  • Debris such as tree branches, signs, and outdoor furniture can become airborne and potentially cause significant damage to your dwelling.

While you can’t control when the chaos of a hurricane may hit, you can have plans in place to be ready if a storm comes. By signing up for our Hurricane Preparedness program, we’ll be sure that your home is prepared to weather the storm.

Pre Storm

As a Florida resident, all of us need to be prepared for hurricane season. The best time to prepare for a hurricane is before the season begins.

We start with inspections to assess your property’s vulnerability to hurricane damage and recommend additional measures to protect your home:

  • Installing hurricane shutters or impact windows if necessary
  • Lubricating the mechanisms for opening, closing, and locking shutters
  • Examining panels and their related components
  • Sealing cracks and crevices that could allow in water
  • Trimming tree branches and clearing rubble from your yard.
  • We also start checking for National Weather Service alerts online.

A hurricane watch means hurricane conditions are possible in a stated area. Experts announce hurricane watches 48 hours before they expect tropical-storm-force winds to start.

A hurricane warning is more serious. It means hurricane-force winds are expected in a stated area. Experts issue these warnings 36 hours before tropical-storm-force winds are expected in the area to give people enough time to prepare for the storm.”

Hurricane Preparation

During a Hurricane

The instant a hurricane watch is announced, we will inspect your home inside and out to secure all furniture that may become airborne in high winds, close all hurricane shutters, and take all necessary steps to defend your home from the effects of a hurricane to its fullest capacity. Photographic confirmation that your house has been secured is then emailed to you.

Our Hurricane Command Center is stocked with all the safety equipment, supplies and resources necessary to fulfill our commitment to our customers to give you the peace-of-mind you deserve before, during and after the storm.

All contractors, staff and technology will be in place to weather the storm, and we share emails and update our website daily with storm progress reports.

Post Storm

All our HomeWatch clients will receive a post storm inspection as soon as possible after the storm has passed. The comprehensive checkup of your home will identify any leaks that may have occurred and assess the extent of any other hurricane-related damage. Following the inspection, you will receive a detailed report with photographs illustrating the condition of your home.
