Things you Need to Plan for When Remodeling your Bathroom

Interested in remodeling your bathroom? Read below to see what you need to plan for.

Remodeling your bathroom can be exciting and fun, but whether you do it yourself or hire someone to do the job, itís a fairly extensive project. Before you start, you need to sit down and plan for certain things. For instance, you should plan on choosing a theme, measuring everything, setting a budget, comparing prices, checking product reviews and dealing with the plumbing.

CHOOSE A THEME

Before you start picking out paint colors and fixtures, decide on a theme. If you have a family, get their input. Some people love the idea of centering the room around frogs, but others might hate having something "look" at them while theyíre trying to take a shower, so make sure everyone is in agreement. If you plan on selling your home in the future, choose a more neutral theme without overly bright colors or designs.

MEASURE EVERYTHING

Nothingís worse than ordering a tub that looks like it will fit nicely in your bathroom and realizing in hindsight that it doesnít. Measure everything to make sure you donít have to deal with trying to return something thatís larger than you are. Donít just measure the area across the wall or floor to find out if it will fit, also take the measurements of the products you are interested in and mark on the wall or take measurements of how the height will work in your bathroom.

SET A BUDGET

If you have a limited amount of money to work with, set a budget and stick to it. Otherwise, you might end up having to use the neighborís bathroom until you scrounge up the cash to finish your project. Donít purchase anything until you have established your budget. If you find a bathtub outside of your budget, you will need to find a cheaper sink or cheaper flooring to make up the difference.

PLUMBING

Unless youíve had previous experience with plumbing, remodeling your bathroom isnít exactly the best time to learn about it. You want everything to turn out well and not have to deal with any break downs or plumbing leaks in the future. A professional plumber can help you with your remodel and assure that everything is hooked up properly and your shower and sink will have running water.

COMPARE PRICES

While it seems like all hardware stores should have around the same prices, sometimes they donít. Shop around to get the best price, and donít forget to check online stores, either. Donít be afraid to ask a store if theyíll match prices Ė you might end up being able to get all of your supplies at one store for a low price.

CHECK PRODUCT REVIEWS

Store employees are helpful, but remember that their job is to make the sale. Check online to find product reviews before you buy, especially if something seems oddly affordable. You want your new bathroom to last you for years to come, so youíll want to make sure you use quality products that arenít going to crack, break down or easily stain.

Basically, you need to check and double check everything before you do it, and you shouldnít take on more than you can comfortably handle. As long as you take the time to plan various aspects of your bathroom remodeling project, you should have a fun time giving your bathroom a new look.
