Tropical Storm Cristobal is moving erratically north-northeastward away from the Bahamas but is forecast to stay away from the U.S. East Coast.

The storm’s maximum sustained winds Monday are near 60 mph. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says strengthening is expected and Cristobal could become a hurricane on Wednesday.

Cristobal is centered about 120 miles east-northeast of San Salvador and is moving north-northeast near 2 mph.

Meanwhile in the Pacific, Hurricane Marie is moving northwest as a major Category 4 storm. Marie’s maximum sustained winds are near 145 mph with weakening expected over the next two days. Marie is centered about 470 miles southwest of the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula.
